Vancouver, BC — September 30, 2020: Kinzoo was honored in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2020 in the Apps & Games category, joining 567 projects, products and services from Spotify, Google, Disney+ and others.
The awards, which can be found in the October/November 2020 issue of Fast Company, recognize people, teams and companies solving problems through design. One of the most sought-after design awards in the industry, Innovation by Design is the only competition to honor creative work at the intersection of design, business, and innovation.
The honorable mention was awarded to Kinzoo’s kid-friendly messenger app, a platform where kids and parents can create and share memories and experiences together. The product offers a unique combination: a private messenger paired with interactive experiences for the entire family that promote connection, creativity and cultivation of new interests.
Kinzoo is particularly innovative because it is creating a new category in tech by offering an app that both parents and kids can use together—and they’re doing it in a way that puts kids and families over data and growth. The company hopes its innovation can spur a cultural shift in the technology world, which is long overdue.
“I am always humbled by the uniqueness of Kinzoo families,” says Blair Fast, Experience Design Director at Kinzoo. “We empathize with their needs and have built an innovative product unlike any other family messenger. We live and breathe kids’ safety, privacy and empowerment and we have designed an experience for diverse families. We embrace change and I am personally ecstatic about our future, which will be shaped by feedback from our users.”
“We need innovative design more than ever, and the 2020 honorees have brought creativity, inventiveness and humanity to address some of the world’s most pressing problems, including the global pandemic, racial injustice and economic inequality. Together these entries offer a glimpse into a future that is more inclusive, more accessible and more just,” says Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company.
The judges include renowned designers from a variety of disciplines, business leaders from some of the most innovative companies in the world, and Fast Company’s own writers and editors. Entries are judged on the key ingredients of innovation: functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural impact and business impact.
Winners, finalists and honorable mentions are featured online and in the October/November issue of Fast Company magazine, on newsstands October 20.
